As a HGV driver you’ve probably learnt a lot about the job and what’s required to be a great driver.
Attitude above all, you could have the best skills and recommendations on paper however if you don’t have an open and positive attitude, the employer is unlikely to give you an opportunity. A good attitude shows a willingness to go the extra mile and do what is needed to complete your job, employers highly value this (sometimes even over experience).
The fact is, the UK has over 50,000 unfilled driving roles and this is increasing by the day, this is mainly due to 2 factors: there are more HGV drivers retiring than there are qualifying, and Brexit has caused a lot of continental drivers to move to other European countries mainly due to the devaluation of the pound.
It seems that there has been a decline in recent years, in the respect road users show each other. Despite sharing the same road, it seems that drivers are less respectful to their fellow travellers as they traverse the nation’s highways and byways.
